The 8th formal ceremony «Nail of the Season»* at which awards of Theatre Union of Russia were presented went off at the Theatre Centre on Strastnoy Boulevard. Intentionally non-glamorous friendly chamber atmosphere, appropriate for the idea of purely professional award, reigned at the peculiar theatre show, the presenters were Sergei Epishev and Konstantin Bogomolov. The brightest and most much-talked-of Moscow performances of the past season were presented with awards in the form of crystal nail. The contest included two stages, firstly, the leading capital critics and theatre experts estimate all the premières. Theatre gourmets of the Expert Soviet make the short list of 5 finalists. This year the prize-winner were «Seasons» by Ivan Popovsky, «Producers» by Dmitri Belov, «In the Forest» by choreographer director Nacho Duato, and «Shukshin's Tales» by the director Alvis Hermanis. The performance «Children of the Sun» by the famous director Adolph Shapiro, adapted from a novel by Maxim Gorky, was recognized as the most outstanding event of the past season. The performance was awarded with the Big Crystal Nail.

*this metaphor refers to the Russian equivalent of the Hit of Season expression. Literally it may be translated as the Tack of the Season with the meaning «the key event of the season».
