The ancient city Tobolsk is situated in the Tyumen Oblast. The time seems to have stopped there. 
It was founded in 1587 on the Holy Trinity Day near the the Siberia Khanate's capital, Qashlig. 
According to the legend, the city stands at the cape, where the fight for the annexation of Siberia to Russia was held by the ataman Yermak. Right up to 18 th century Tobolsk was marked on maps as «Siberian City». As the capital of Siberia, it was the most important administrative center in this region from Vyatka to Russian America. People from all over the world come to visit this city to see the main symbol of the Russian royalty - the Tobolsk Kremlin. It was built in 1594. Firstly, it was made of wood and then of white stone. Citizens of present-day Tobolsk treat the city's history with care. One can get acquainted with it in the museum of local lore or in the streets. 
In one of Tobolk's streets the monument to the famous Russian writer, tale-teller and dramatist Petr Ershov is situated. He is famous for the fairy-tale «The little Humpbacked Horse». The citizens are sure that the fairy-tale takes place exactly in their city, that is why they pictured Tobolsk standing on the big whale.
